This guide explains how to put a Vantorra overgrip on a pickleball paddle. S1, R1 and T1 are outer wraps: keep a secure, undamaged base grip in place. If the base needs replacing, read overgrip vs replacement grip first.
Before You Begin
- Have your overgrip, suitable finishing tape and scissors ready.
- Remove the old outer wrap slowly. Check the base grip for damage, movement or uneven cushioning.
- Work on a clean, dry handle and keep adhesive and tools away from the paddle face.
- Check strip length and handle coverage before trimming, especially with the shorter T1 strip.
Step-by-Step Installation
- Prepare the strip. For S1 and R1, remove the protective film from the grip surface. For T1, identify the adhesive release liner and peel it gradually as you wrap.
- Start at the butt end. Position the starting end so the lower gripping area is covered without folding material across the bottom of the handle.
- Wrap upward. Rotate the paddle while guiding the strip at a steady angle. Use light, even tension and a small, consistent overlap with no gaps.
- Check the feel. Pause before the final cut. Hold the handle in your usual positions and check for wrinkles, bulky seams or an oversized feel.
- Finish below the paddle face. Once coverage is correct, trim excess carefully away from the paddle and secure the upper end with finishing tape. Confirm the wrap and finish stay in place before play.
Adjust for Your Overgrip Type
S1 Smooth: 0.60–0.65 mm
The thin PU strip measures 1,200 × 26 mm. Avoid stretching aggressively to make it thinner. Keep overlap modest and even if you want to limit added bulk. See S1 Smooth specifications.
R1 Ribbed: 0.75–0.80 mm
The 1,100 × 25 mm PU + EVA strip has an integrated ridge. Keep spacing consistent so the contour does not bunch into isolated bumps. Check the ridge under your fingers before securing the top. See R1 Ribbed specifications.
T1 Towel: 1.5 mm
The cotton strip measures 700 × 30 mm and has adhesive backing. Check the wrap path before peeling the liner. Expose the adhesive in short sections, avoid overstretching the textile and keep overlap small to reduce thick seams. Repeated repositioning can affect adhesion or disturb the base grip. See T1 Towel specifications.
If the Wrap Does Not Feel Right
- Too bulky: check for excessive overlap or extra old layers. Consider a thinner overgrip.
- Gaps or wrinkles: review the wrapping angle and tension. Rewrap only if the material and underlying surface allow it.
- Not enough length: check handle dimensions and overlap. Do not stretch the strip excessively or leave a gripping area uncovered.
- Moving or unwinding: check the upper finish and base grip. Do not continue playing with a loose wrap.
If your paddle has an unusual handle or delicate finish, follow the paddle manufacturer's instructions. Remove adhesive-backed wraps slowly; residue or lifting of a fragile base surface can occur.
After Installation
Start with gentle practice and check the wrap remains secure. Let a damp handle air-dry after play. Inspect its condition regularly using our replacement checklist. If you are still choosing a surface, compare Smooth, Ribbed and Towel overgrips.
